SWAK! Send Valentine’s Photo Cards to Your Loved Ones

If you’re like me, your children have more than two sets of grandparents, possibly some great-grandparents and many of them don’t live close by. Since my family is rather extended and far away, and I have a great need to keep in touch especially in the dreary winter months, I send photo card Valentines. I can’t think of a grandparent that wouldn’t melt over a SWAK card from one of their little love bugs.

The two examples in this post are cards I created for this coming Valentine’s Day. Creating great cards is easy. Throughout the year, as I take photos, I tag the ones I think would be great for certain usages or occasions. Then when the time comes, the photo selection process is much faster. Once I have my photos uploaded, I start playing with backgrounds, layouts, fonts and sayings. The hard part is deciding which to buy, as I’m only picking one.

Valentine Photo Card 1

Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot …

Don’t fret if you missed the chance to get your holiday cards out in December. Buck tradition and surprise friends and family with a “Happy New Year” card.

We say a new year is plenty reason to say “hey” to all those people on your mailing list. But if you want more incentive, here’s why the Inkubook team is in favor of the New Year’s greeting card:

  • Unique: Inkubookers like to stand out. Most people send out greeting cards in December, so your card will be a sweet surprise to ring in the new year.
  • Versatile: “Happy New Year” is the new “Season’s Greetings.” No matter what religious holidays your friends and family celebrate, a new year’s card sends just the right message.
  • Fun: Since you’re not tied to a specific holiday, you can get creative with your card. Inkubook has loads of backgrounds to choose from, no matter what sort of feel you’re going for:

Don’t drop the ball! Be one of the first to welcome your auld (and new) acquaintances into 2012 by making your photo greeting cards today (and check out Facebook and Twitter for our latest promotions so you can save when you send).

Bring Christmas Past Into The Present

The lights, the music, the holiday cheer and the big guy in the red suit – something about the Christmas season seems to bring out the child in all of us. And while you may not look as young as you feel, you can relive the days when you did with Inkubook vintage Christmas photo books.

This year, while you’re up in the attic getting down the decorations, look around for some boxes of old photos. You’re bound to find stacks of forgotten pictures that will rekindle the memories of Christmases and haircuts past. Once you’ve collected enough pictures, simply scan them to a computer and upload them directly into an Inkubook. Vintage Christmas photo books make great presents, especially for those in the difficult-to-buy-for category.

But photo books aren’t your only option. Instead of hassling with getting the entire family together for a picture, use one of the classics for this year’s holiday greeting card. It’s sure to be one of the most unique cards anyone receives, and it’s much less embarrassing than the matching holiday sweaters families usually wear in the pictures.

The Unofficial Wedding Photo Book

Your wedding day is one of the happiest days of your life. All of your friends, family and loved ones are gathered to celebrate your transition into the next phase of life. After months and months of countless hours of planning, the day itself will go by faster than you can say, “I do.”

And with all the activity and excitement it can be easy to miss out on special little moments. So, to capture everyone and every event from your reception create an unofficial wedding photo book with Inkubook.

All you need to do is place a disposable camera on each table and let your guests be the photographers. Afterwards, collect the cameras or invite others to upload their own pictures with Inkubook’s photo sharing feature. You could also include cards on the table to allow friends and family to write well wishes to the newlyweds to include in your book. While the majority of the pictures probably won’t make the cut for your official album, together they can create a fun flipbook to help you relive the more casual side of your special day.

Scavenger Hunt & Other Halloween Photo Ideas

Quirky, spooky, silly, scary: Halloween is the year’s best photo op.

Whether you have your own little ghouls and goblins at home, or little monsters of the niece, nephew or furry variety (see adorable examples below), the cuteness that Halloween brings is enough to cause a toothache the likes of which most of us haven’t experienced since the great candy-corn overdoses of our youth.

But what makes Halloween one of my favorite holidays is that it lets all of us act like a kid again. It’s the one time of the year when publicly playing dress up and gorging on sweets is socially acceptable. And the photos that come with such a spectacle are priceless.

My Favorite Halloween Photo Ops:

  • The look on peoples’ faces when they scoop the guts from the pumpkin
  • Getting-ready candids – painting faces, applying fake wounds, adjusting vampire teeth
  • Turning a night out into a snapshot scavenger hunt:
    1. Preposterous pairings – Ninja Turtle talking to Albert Einstein – why not!?
    2. Pets in costume
    3. Someone dressed as a political figure
    4. Children dressed as food
    5. Most creative couple costume

Make your own Halloween scavenger hunt list and see what develops. Find more tips to make your Halloween photos great here.

We have Chanukah card and calendar layouts!

Chanukah begins at sundown on December 20th, and so that means there’s plenty of time to get cards made, ordered and delivered — still giving you plenty of time to address, send and have your greetings arrive early even! If you’ve thought about making calendars for the special people in your life, we also have Chanukah backgrounds which can be found in the Year In Review theme within our Monthly Celebration category.

Dreidel

If you’re looking to make cards, click New on your bookshelf, select Card, click Next, then click Holiday. Christmas is the default, but if you click the right arrow for Browse Theme, Chanukah is next in the rotation [see image below]. Name your card and press Next. Upload your photos and click Finished. Once your photos are uploaded, you’ll be taken to the Editor where the Dreidel card is the default. If you click on Backgrounds, you’ll see the other Chanukah options [above image is one option]. Once you’ve settled on the card you want to make, it’ll just be another few minutes before you’re card is ready to order.

Halloween Celebration Checklist: From Costumes to Candy to Cards

Halloween is a little over a month away. How will you make it spooktacular this year? Below is a quick celebration checklist to ensure you’re ready.

Costumes or Orange & Black apparel
- Check out your local big box stores, but other great places for costumes include Costco, Cracker Barrel, Gymboree and party supply stores.
Candy or other treats
- Start clipping coupons now as candy gets expensive fast. Other great treats include pencils, erasers, travel tooth brushes and toothpaste, fruit snacks, Little Debbie Pumpkin Delights and microwave popcorn.

Decorations and lights
- Get the box out from the attic and basement and decorate. Maybe pick up a new decoration this year (I buy one a year so it doesn’t get expensive).
- Consider candy corn lights (like Christmas lights) for your now leafless trees.
- Luminaries are cheap, look great and help little costume crews find their way to your porch.

Pumpkins, hay bales and foddershock
- Pumpkins for porch décor and for carving (just don’t carve too soon).
- Pumpkin carving kits.
- Hay and Fodder make great outdoor décor – and “hey” your scarecrow needs something to sit on or lean against.

Halloween Photo Cards or Photo Invites
- Dress the kids up early and take a few pics to send photo cards to grandma and grandpa and other distant relatives. Who doesn’t like getting cards?
- Planning a Halloween party? Make it more festive with a photo card invite.

Halloween Greeting

What do you do for Halloween preparation that isn’t included in this list?

Be sure to have a camera in hand for all of your Halloween planning, decorating, pumpkin picking, parties and trick-or-treating. And, please remember the Halloween convention: a lit porch light means you’re accepting trick-or-treaters and a light that’s off means you’re not.

Have a Bootiful Halloween!

Have lots of photos of baby? Here are some fun baby photo book ideas.

Maybe it’s the word “labor”, but Labor Day makes me think of babies. They’re soft and cuddly and usually smell pretty sweet and they tend to be the focus of a lot of the pictures many of us take. Therefore, they make the perfect subjects for photo books.

Every Month of My Life

If you’re creative and have solid Photoshop skills you can create custom designs like in the image above. This baby book captures one photo a month, each month, of the baby’s first two years of life (that way it’s at least a 20 page book). The caption on every page is a song title and a CD was made to accompany the book when gifted to the grandparents.

The book below covers a shorter, but messier time period. This book is all about baby’s first foods. Each page is dedicated to a newly introduced food and captures baby’s reaction upon tasting. This book used a background provided in Inkubook’s cookbook theme and works great in this baby book (I like green beans too).

Baby Foodie

Inkubook has several backgrounds for baby-themed books, see some design options below. Our backgrounds even include  journal page options, so you can jot down the vital statistics and a few interesting memories about your prince or princess.

We also have pregnancy memory backgrounds, birth announcements and more. If you have pictures, we’ll help you find inspiration. And maybe over the long holiday weekend, you’ll have some time to create something beautiful.
